Gotham EP: Joker Promo Is No Tease
Will we see the Joker in this Monday’s episode of Gotham? Last week’s promo for Monday’s “The Blind Fortune Teller” certianly seems to indicate that and a young not yet Joker will be played by Shameless actor Cameron Monaghan. Gotham Executive Producer Bruno Heller claimed they aren’t misleading the audience, but was rather ambiguous about if Monaghan is in fact The Joker.

"He may or may not be The Joker. All I can promise is that’s not a bait and switch. It’s a long game we’re playing here. What I can guarantee is that you have to follow that brilliant young actor Cameron Monaghan down the line, and you will see how this leads to the character we all know and love."
So it sort of sounds like Heller is comfiriming it, but maybe not? Monaghan is a great actor, I think he could pull of the role of the Joker pretty well, but of course all they have to do is introduce this young kid who might be the Joker, and then not touch on the story again for a long time, after which they could cast a completely different person to play The Joker anyways. Heller does confirm that the actual real Joker won’t appear until Batman does, so no worries about the major point of his historic origin being different. Remember, the Joker has no established origin story, even he has said he’s lied so many times about his origins he’s not sure what the truth is anymore.
Maybe a clip might help. In this clip, which is exclusive to People, so watch it there, Gordon interviews Monaghan’s character, Jerome. It’s pretty clear that Jerome’s mother was murdered, and Gordon asks Jerome about possible murder suspects, including apparently, her many lovers. Jerome seems to have a pretty positive attitude about his mother’s sex life, but it also may be an act. We’ll have to tune in to Gotham Monday on Fox to find out!
