In Memoriam: Ceasar Romero

While we here at Caped Crusades love to honor the birthdays of people who bring the world of Batman to life, we also remember those important people in the world of Batman who have passed on. With that in mind, we remember legendary actor Cesar Romero, who was born on this day in 1907.

Cesar Romero had a career that spanned decades before passing away from bronchitis & pneumonia in 1994, but Batman fans of course know him best for his definitive first stamp as The Joker in the 1960s Batman TV series starring Adam West and Burt Ward. Infamously, Cesar Romero refused to shave his trademark mustache for the role of the Joker, so it was simply painted over, but could be seen in some shots even back in the 60s and if you watch the recently released Batman series on DVD and Blu-ray, you can easily see it in nearly every decent shot of his face. Nevertheless, Cesar Romero gave a defining performance of the Joker that pretty much has influenced anyone who has played the Joker since then. So we at Caped Crusades would like to take this time to remember Cesar Romero for his great contribution to the Batman universe. He would’ve been 108 today.
