Amazing Spider-Man #13 Recap

It’s almost time for the conclusion! Let’s catch up with the Spiders as they prepare for the final battle with Amazing Spider-Man #13.

The issue opens on Loomworld Earth-001, within the great hall of the Inheritors where the family is having a meeting to discuss their recent failures -Morlun not withstanding.

Jennix talks of his failure in letting the cloning facility be destroyed (see Scarlet-Spiders #3), Brix and Bora bicker about the escape of Silk, and Verna begins to apologize as well, though Lord Solus seems to be happy about the way things are going. They have Benjamin the Scion in their grasp and, thanks to the Master Weaver’s clairvoyance, know that Kaine and Silk will come to them, and this knowledge is enough for Solus to decree that there will be Spider-Men no more.

We cut to Earth-3145, where the Spiders are dealing with the discovery of a Ben Parker Spider Totem. We find out that in this universe, Ben Parker was bit by the radioactive Spider that bit Peter on Earth-616; Peter made him a costume and web shooters so they could make a few bucks, but Ben chose instead to be a hero. He tells the story of how his nemesis the Emerald Elf (sound famliar?) killed both his wife and nephew by blowing up their home -an event that convinced him to put up the tights for good, an action made easer when Ezekiel shows up and locks him in Sims Tower to protect him from Morlun.

Ben goes on to reveal what happened to the Earth while he was hidden away: Doctor Octopus held the world hostage with a nuclear ransom until his device went off prematurely – a revelation the Superior Spider-Man doesn’t take well. Calling the whole thing a distraction, Peter turns their attention to the two scrolls Spider-Woman teleported to them by sacrificing her teleporter. Upon hearing of Jessica’s situation, Silk sneaks off to go rescue her, and Spider-Gwen tags along for the ride to Loomworld.

We then see a small aside between Spider-Man India and Spider-UK. Pativr fears that, after noticing the numerous similarities between himself and Peter Parker, he is nothing but an echo or reflection of the real Spider-Man, and is therefore expendable. Spider-UK attempts to assuage his fears by describing that even though there are thousands of the Captain Britain Corp, he is unique in his own way -and that Pavitr is a hero himself.

Meanwhile, SpOck is sick of this “inferior world” that they’re on, and takes the scrolls so that he can decipher them with the help of his talking computer. Peter notices that the computer program is based on Anna Maria Marconi, a name which he shouldn’t yet know, SpOck realizes; and with that realization, SpOck has the epiphany that this Peter is from later in his timeline, and that eventually Peter wins, and he loses everything.

Spider-Girl Anya takes the scrolls upon revealing that due to her totem worshiping Spider-Powers she can read them, and describes a ritual the Inheritors need to enact to stop the prophecy of the spiders ending their reign of power. The ritual requires the blood of the Other, Kaine, the Scion, Benjy, and the Bride, Silk. Peter finds, much to his chagrin, that Silk has snuck off again, and we then see a few panels of Jessica, Gwen, and Cindy battling against pirates on the Loomworld.

The next page brings us to Earth-802, the world where Ben Reilly just sacrificed himself to destroy the Inheritors cloning facility, and Kaine isn’t so happy about it. As his spidery “other” side begins to take hold of him, he declares that he is going to loomworld to end it, and he knocks aside the Ultimate Black Widow so he can go it alone.

With the final two totems now on the Loomworld, the Inheritors suddenly sense their presence and leap to action in a frenzied, hungered state. Cut back to Peter and co. and we find that they split into two teams, Anya and her team to go complete a mission of sorts (see Spider-Verse Team Up #3), while Pete and the rest plan to take it to the Inheritors on the Loomworld.

Now panicked by the quickly moving events that seem to head towards the end of the Spiders, Pete contacts everyone and tells them to get over to the Loomworld ASAP. Lady Spider and Spider-Man 2099 seem to be working on some device and say they need five minutes, Black Widow is stuck on the clone world, and Miles and the Web-Warriors tell Pete that they’re on the way and will pick Ultimate Jessica up on the way. With everyone accounted for, Spider-Man gets them ready to go -though
Ben explains that he can’t go.

Back on the Loomworld, Kaine has transformed into his giant Spider form, and is engaged in battle with Morlun, Daemos, and Lord Solus. Morlun and Daemos are taken aback at the strength of Kaine, but Solus is enthused, excited to face a worthy foe… until that is, Kaine stabs him with multiple spider stingers and brings an end to the Great Solus. Enraged by the death of his father, Morlun rips off one of Kaine’s stingers and drives it through the back of his neck, felling the Other. With Daemos at a loss over the death of Solus, Morlun takes it upon himself to begin the ritual and make sure he assures their legacy.

We then find Silk and co. attempting to escape Loomworld, when suddenly Verna and the twins appear in a golden flash, with a bunch of Green Goblin iterations backing them up.

Cutting back to Peter and friends, we see him trying to convince Uncle Ben to take up the mantle of Spider-Man once more, describing how he was the one who taught him the lesson of great responsibility. Ben believes otherwise, he thinks that even men with great power are just men with feet of clay, men who make mistakes at great costs, and that he can’t fail again.

Much to Peter’s disbelief, it ends up being the Superior Spider-Man who convinces Ben to stand up and fight, it’s SpOck who says that every enemy has a weakness, and that they only have to win one time; that they may all have feet of clay, but they have the spirit to raise up, and that it’s time to get up and fight!

With Ben suited up, we see a sweet group shot of the Spiders, with SpOck and Pete delivering their “big lines,” preparing to finish the battle once and for all. To LOOMWORLD!
