Arrow Season 3, Episode 14 Synopsis: The Return
By Nick Tylwalk
If you enjoy episode titles that work on more than one level — and let’s face it, we all do to some extent — you should be tickled pink by this week’s new installment of Arrow.

As we saw last week, it’s called “The Return” because Oliver Queen has taken his sister Thea to a place he knows all too well. It’s Lian Yu, also known as Purgatory, or simply “The Island.” Ollie spent some quality time there on his way to becoming the Arrow, as you know only too well unless you jumped into the series only for Season 3.
The title also refers to Slade Wilson, the villain known as Deathstroke, who’s being held in an A.R.G.U.S. cell built specifically for him. He’s bound to be a little upset about being holed up on Lian Yu, don’t you think? Let’s check out the official synopsis for “The Return” from The CW:
"Malcolm puts Oliver and Thea in a dangerous situation that lands them on Lian Yu with Oliver’s former enemy, Deathstroke. A flashback reveals when Oliver and Maseo returned to Starling City to retrieve the Omega bio weapon, and despite being under strict orders from Amanda Waller not to reveal himself to anyone, Oliver looks in on his family, Laurel and Tommy. Dermott Downs directed the episode written by Marc Guggenheim & Erik Oleson."
Oh my, forgot all about Tommy. So maybe the title really works on three different levels, even if we’re only seeing Tommy in a flashback.
Except for seeing Slade, I’m actually a little wary that this episode might be a bit of treading water until we hit the stretch run, where Arrow has turned completely topsy-turvy in each of its prior two seasons. I’m also really hoping that we check in on the progress of Ray Palmer with his ATOM suit, since he wasn’t in the previous episode at all.
A new Arrow is still reason to be excited, regardless of what might be happening, and this one will air Wednesday night on The CW at 8 pm. Rejoin us here for our recap and review post about 30 minutes after the East Coast airing of the show, if you’d be so kind.
