Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach demoted to Spider-Man executive producers
By Daniel Wood
Avi Arad has been behind the scenes of Sony’s Spider-Man film franchise from the start, he’s seen it rise to fruition with Sam Raimi’s trilogy and, after being joined by Matt Tolmach, oversaw the reboot with Amazing Spider-Man. Basically, as producers, these two men were intrinsically involved with the Spider-Man film franchise.

But the new deal between Marvel and Sony concerning Spider-Man appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to have put an end to that because the producers for the as yet untitled new Spider-Man film in 2017 are not Arad and Tomach, but rather ex Sony Co-Chairman Amy Pascal and Marvel’s very own Kevin Feige.
So what will happen to Arad and Tolmach? Well the Hollywood Reporter has reported on Hollywood and seeming revealed the deal with the Spider-Man producers, suggesting that they will be Spider-Man producers no-more! Instead they will be Spider-Man executive producers!
"Amazing producers Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad have been downgraded to executive producers, with no real say in the creative direction of the franchise."
That’s right, they’ve effectively been demoted with literally no control over anything anymore. Ordinarily I would say it’s a shame because Avi Arad is clearly passionate about Spider-Man, however Sony really were in a spot of bother with Spider-Man and Arad was involved in letting that happen so I can’t feel too bad about it!
