Jada Pinkett Smith Talks That Brutal Gotham Scene
Gotham is certainly not a family friendly show. It’s gritty and dark and violent. But Gotham easily had it’s most brutal scene to date on this week’s past episode. If you haven’t watched the episode yet, MAJOR SPOILER WARNING.

Jada Pinkett Smith, who plays Fish Mooney on Gotham, used a spoon to dig out her own eye and crush it, rather tan letting it be sold for money by her captors, who harvest various organs for sale on the black market. Jada Pinkett Smith talked with People about that scene among many other things.
"That was an interesting day because I was not feeling very well. It was really challenging just keeping my concentration and keeping my energy levels up, but it was a lot of fun, too. It’s very rare that you get to do something so extreme. The crew was so good to me, and everybody was chipping in. It was definitely challenging. But I loved having the opportunity to do some outrageous stuff."
It also turns out that Jada Pinkett Smith is a big comic book lover. She even created a comic book character herself.
"I played my hand at creating a comic book before – called Menace – when I was in my twenties. I was trying to create a black female comic-book character that was from the ‘hood.I wrote it, and it was with a company at the time that went under, unfortunately. She was called Menace, and she was this character who was doing a lot of bad stuff. She died in a drug deal gone bad, and, as she’s about to die, an angel comes to her, and he basically says, “Listen, I will return your life to you if you take this opportunity to redeem your soul. I’m going to give you the opportunity to save the souls of those who are like you” – basically, young kids who are out in the streets doing bad things. So she takes the deal, and each soul that she saves brings her closer to eternal life and brings her from the dark to the light. She just has this struggle between dark and light. That was pretty much what that comic book was about. She was pretty hot, and her name was Menace ’cause she was a menace! [Laughs]"
In this age of comic books being so prevalent on both the big and small screen, it certainly wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility to see Jada Pinkett Smith’s comic creation somewhere down the line. But right now, us Gothamites are wondering how Fish Mooney is handling having one less eye?
