Villains That Should Come To Gotham

Gotham has already played host to a number of iconic Batman Villains. As the hit TV series is gearing up for the grand season finale, here are some villains who I think can appear on the show.

More from TV

1) Ra’s Al Ghul

As we all know, Ra’s Al Ghul (Arabian for the Demon’s Head, pronounced Raeysh Aal Ghool) is one of Batman’s most iconic and formidable villains. His will to eradicate evil from the earth by any means necessary is what makes him an amazing villain in the rogue’s gallery of The Dark Knight. He is the head of a highly dangerous criminal organization named The League Of Assassins. He has already been portrayed in The Dark Knight Trilogy by Liam Neeson and currently in the hit TV series Arrow by Matthew Nable. His origin in Gotham can be depicted as done in the video-game Batman Arkham City, where Ra’s has been building a city underneath Gotham City, named Wonder City and it is fueled by the famous Lazarus Pit. In this version, the Lazarus Pit was created with the help of a chemical named Lazarus mixed with some of Solomon Grundy’s blood. Grundy is explained later in this article

2) Lock-up

Anybody who has watched the episode LOCK-UP of Batman The Animated Series will know about this villain. Lyle Bolton is a heavy, muscular man who specializes in high tech security systems. In that episode of BTAS, Lyle Bolton was recommended by Bruce Wayne himself for tightening the security of Arkham Asylum. But soon, he heard rumors that Bolton was using excessive force to keep prisoners in line. After questioning the inmates of Arkham such as the Ventriloquist and Scarface, Harley Quinn and the Scarecrow, Bruce Wayne discovered that Bolton had been torturing, threatening, and assaulting the inmates. After this event coming to light, Bolton was fired as head of security in Arkham. Soon, Bolton started taking hostages of those who had been responsible for his unfortunate (Or should I say, fortunate) destiny. he would be stopped by the Dark Knight. Some elements of this concept can be used for his origin story in Gotham.

3) Mr. Freeze

Victor Fries is the brilliant molecular biologist who later becomes the super villain named Mr. Freeze. As the name suggests, Freeze uses a plethora of ice-themed weapons including the famous Freeze Ray Gun and Freeze Blasters. His best recognized origin story is the episode of Batman The Animated Series named Hear Of Ice written by reknown Batman author Paul Dini (Who also wrote the hit video-games Batman Arkham Asylum and Batman Arkham City). This episode won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in an Animated Program. Cryogenic scientist Victor Fries was working for the company Gothcorp and embezzled funds for an experiment in order to save his terminally ill wife Nora Fries by cryogenically freezing his wife until a cure could be found. However, Gothcorp’s CEO Ferris Boyle broke into the lab with guards, demanding an end be put to the experiment. When Fries desperately grabbed a security guard’s pistol to aim at Boyle, the corrupt CEO kicked him into a table of chemical beakers filled with cryogenic substance, leaving Victor to die. But as it turned out, Fries did not die. Instead, his body metabolism became in such a way that he needed to stay at subzero temperatures at all times to survive. Fries builds a suit for himself and plots his revenge against Ferris Boyle, only to be thwarted by Batman in the end. Mr. Freeze can be done in a way similar to how Scarecrow was introduced to Gotham. As a relatively young man, who is very much interested in Cryogenics.

4) Solomon Grundy

Solomon Grundy is another interesting villain in the Caped Crusader’s rogues gallery. Grundy was created as a villain for Batman’s fellow Justice League member Green Lantern. Cyrus Gold was a wealthy merchant who lived in the 19th century. He was beaten up and left for dead in a mysterious swamp. His body is re-animated certain years later into an undead zombie who, even if killed by the most brutal methods comes back to life. He is majorly based on the nursery rhyme of the same name. The character of Cyrus Gold was portrayed by Graham Shiels on Arrow. While it might not be Plausible for Grundy to appear on Gotham right away given that Bruce becomes Batman in another 12 to 13 years, It would definitely be interesting to see how the character could be developed on the show, if the idea ever comes up to the creators of the show.
