Stan Lee gives autistic child signed Spider-Man sketch
By Daniel Wood
Stan Lee is a huge Marvel legend for good reason, not only did he co-invent Spider-Man (and some other characters) or appear in legendary cameo roles in almost every film. But he’s also a pretty swell guy in general! As evidenced by his latest act of kindness.
That’s right, Stan Lee gave 8-year old Spider-Man fan Jamel Hunter a signed personalised sketch of Spider-Man saying “Hi Jamel.” Why did the Generalissimo do this? Because he’s awesome, that’s why!
Jamel’s mother Phyllis grew up overcoming all sorts of adversity, and Jamel himself has autism and didn’t speak at all until he attended a special pre-school for children with intellectual disabilities, the Kennedy Child Study Center
The story of the Hunter family and Jamel’s eighth birthday party was reported on by the New York Times as part of their ‘Neediest Cases Fund’. A veteran Jazz musician named Corky Hale read the story and she just happened to live next door to Stan Lee, so he asked him for a sketch and he obliged!
For the full story on this remarkable act of kindness head on over to the New York Times who played a crucial role in getting Jamel’s story out there!
