AMC And Regal Announce The Ultimate Marvel Marathon

With the early premiere of the third trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron, AMC Theaters and Regal Cinemas have announced that they will be participating in The Ultimate Marvel Marathon — an eleven-movie back-to-back screening of every Phase 1 and Phase 2 Marvel Cinematic Universe film.  The event starts from April 29, 2015 at 6:00PM and caps off on April 30, 2015 with the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron at 7:00PM.

Yes, this is crazy!  I knew Marvel Studios was going to be doing something big for the premiere of Avengers: Age of Ultron, but I didn’t know it was going to be this big.  I first got wind of tickets going on sale with an email about the double-feature showing for The Avengers (2012) and Avengers: Age of Ultron from my friend Dan Calvisi at Act Four Screenplays.  This is how the exchange went down:

Dan: Holy crap, they are ALREADY on sale! And there will be a double feature marathon with “A1.” I just made up that term, how ‘bout it?

Me: I was totally expecting this [as I smugly do my best Tommy Wiseau laugh behind my keyboard]. I’m actually waiting for the AMC Phase 2 Marathon.  I did the Phase 1 Marathon for the first Avengers movie. It was EPIC!

And then came announcements from AMC Theaters and Regal Cinemas, with AMC’s itinerary reading something like this:

"6:00pm IRON MAN8:25pm THE INCREDIBLE HULK10:35pm IRON MAN 21:00am THOR3:10am CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER5:30am THE AVENGERS8:48am IRON MAN 311:15am THOR: THE DARK WORLD1:45pm CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER4:20pm GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY7:00pm AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON"

Dan: Insanity!

On top of being one of the first in North America to see Avengers: Age of Ultron, participants will also receive an Avengers: Age of Ultron Collector’s Pin and a Limited Edition Print.  Wait, it gets better.  At the bottom of the announcement, AMC writes:

"Make it all the way through the marathon, and you’ll receive a limited edition Marvel Medal for your achievement."

You know, real-world accolades mean nothing to me now.  College degree? … Who can’t get a college degree? … Graduate school? … Pfft.  A Limited Edition Marvel Medal?!  That’s going straight up on the wall.  Hell, I’m wearing it proudly to work.  Yes, I’m going to be that guy.

So far, the only theaters that are listed to participate in The Ultimate Marvel Marathon are:

AMC Theaters

  • AMC Studio 28, Kansas City
  • Lincoln Sqaure 13, New York
  • Downtown Disney 12, Anaheim
  • Downtown Disney 24, Orlando

Regal Cinemas

  • Edwards Ontario Palace Stadium 22IMAX & RPX, Ontario, CA
  • Regal Atlantic Station Stadium 16 IMAX & RPX, Atlanta, GA
  • UA King of Prussia Stadium 16 IMAX & RPX, King of Prussia, PA
  • Edwards Houston Marq’E Stadium 23 IMAX & RPX, Houston, TX

I don’t see a listing for the AMC theater that’s in my city, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the theaters showing The Ultimate Marvel Marathon will grow as the date nears.  In the meantime, you can never prepare too early, so I’m contacting NASA for one of their astronaut diapers.  Hey, we’re talking about sitting in a theater for over 24 hours.  And the last time I checked, I wasn’t an Avenger or a “miracle“, so that leaves me as just a measly human being with average abilities.  Now that I think about it, I wonder how Iron Man does it?

Avengers: Age of Ultron is set for a North America release date of May 1, 2015, and is being directed and written by Joss Whedon, and starring Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as Dr. Bruce Banner / The Hulk, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton / Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as Col. James “Rhodey” Rhodes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Pietro Maximoff / Quicksilver, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as J.A.R.V.I.S. and Vision, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Stellan Skarsgård as Erik Selvig, James Spader as Ultron, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Thomas Kretschmann as Baron Wofgang von Strucker, and Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaw.
