Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD Brainstorm Session – “Aftershocks”
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD picked up the second half of the season Tuesday evening, and it didn’t miss a beat. There’s a lot to cover this week, and yet I manage to focus on one ridiculous theory. The sections are also in a different order this week because it works better.
1. How long until everyone knows about Skye’s powers?
I’ve been preaching this since the winter finale: If they drag out keeping it secret or the team treating her like a leper or everyone completely writing her off, then this show has lost itself. For a show about an organization that deals with gods, billionaires who think they’re superheroes, and legitimate superheroes, they would be stupid to take the X-Men route with this and drag it out for too long.
That being said, the previews for next week’s episode make it look as though the truth is revealed pretty quickly. Especially with Lady Sif arriving from Asgard again, the repercussions will start to mount. The only question that will remain is how long will it take for everyone to accept Skye and for her to be able to control her powers?
2. How will the GH-325 affect Coulson?
Coulson has been closer to normal since the discovery of the mapped city, no longer losing his mind. However, in an interview I cannot find for the life of me, Clark Gregg mentioned that Coulson isn’t quite out of the woods yet. In “Aftershocks,” we saw a very unhinged Phil Coulson taking charge and challenging those challenging his own authority. While you can initially blame it on the loss of Agent Triplett, I feel like it goes much deeper than that. Maybe aggressive mood swings? Times of uncontrollable rage? Will he start wearing an eye patch and dressing in all black?
3. Will we get a Fitz/Skye romance?
Let me be honest: I would much prefer this over Ward/Skye. We’re probably never going to get FitzSimmons again like the first season. I’m not completely sold on the romantic angle of their relationship (not that anything has really alluded to it); I would much prefer them being a new iteration of FitzSimmons, a very close friendship that builds off one another. They’re both “damaged goods” attempting to heal. I think that aspect of it works.

Fun Theory I’m Making Up Right Now
Bobbi and Mack are not working for Hydra.
In fact, their mystery boss they’re attempting to get Fury’s toolbox for is none other than Tony Stark!
What’s my basis for this? Well, technically I saw someone else mention it on a reddit thread when I was trying to figure out what Marvel’s/Robert Downey Jr.’s “big announcement” was going to be on Thursday*. Someone else’s guess was that RDJ wanted to announce a guest appearance on Agents of SHIELD.
Imagine if Tony Stark tasked Maria Hill with finding the remnants of SHIELD after the Hydra breach in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Hill contacts Bobbi, who also confides in Mack since he knows how to get people to trust him and they have a history. Stark wants his hands on anything SHIELD-related and, not knowing Coulson is alive and still running things, thinks he needs to be super sneaky and all the intel has been stolen. Hill goes along with it to keep Stark in the dark.

Weekly Avengers Cameo
Tony Stark, to go along with the “Fun Theory” up there. After receiving the schematics of the base from Mack (via Maria Hill), he decides to take matters into his own hands. He heads to the SHIELD base and struts in like he owns the place, shocked to find quite a few people in SHIELD uniforms staring at him in awe as he walks past.
He saunters through hallways and glances through a long window where he sees Coulson talking with Bobbi. Coulson notices Stark out of his peripheral vision. He lets a look of shock and “Oh crap” flash across his face before he drops to the ground in an attempt to hide himself. That’s when Stark loses it and butts into the office, complaining loudly about secrets and lies and Fury doing his Fury thing and poking Coulson with an electric stick (think Bruce Banner in The Avengers) to see if he isn’t some sort of Life Model Decoy.
(I have a hilarious mental image of this happening. I really want this to happen.)

Weekly Webisode Idea
“Fun Accents With Lance Hunter.” I found great joy in Hunter’s American accent when double-crossing Bakshi. Can we hear an Irish one? Russian? Can he just always talk with an American accent just to tick him off?

*Did Marvel actually make an announcement? Or was it just the Age of Ultron trailer, which was unlocked two days early? Or was it RDJ’s announcement of the charity contest to go to the red carpet premiere with him?
Lady Sif is always a welcome inclusion in any episode of Agents of SHIELD. Can we hope for a glimpse of Loki anywhere? …No? …Can I still hope?
