By Nick Tylwalk
It looks like less yellow, more red and not as much skin showing is the idea behind Melissa Benoist’s costume for Supergirl.

Yahoo! News got to show off the first two images of Benoist in costume earlier today, and you can see them both below. What you’ll notice right away is that there’s a minimum of yellow, with that color limited to the belt and the outline of the red “S” symbol on the chest. Early reaction by fans on the internet seems to be mixed about having the shield empty so that it shows the main part of the fabric. The blue is a bit darker than the traditional Superman family of costumes, in keeping with the look of Henry Cavill’s suit from Man of Steel.
While Benoist had made some comments about the challenges of Supergirl’s traditionally short skirts, this one doesn’t seem too immodest, and the high boots help in that regard as well.
With the cast mostly set and the costume finished, Supergirl looks to be well on its way. The pilot episode is set to begin production any day, and it’s expected that the series will be on the fall schedule next season for CBS.
