AMC Orders Two Seasons Of The Walking Dead Spinoff
By Nick Tylwalk
Considering that The Walking Dead is the top-rated scripted show on television, it’s not surprising that AMC decided to roll the dice on its spinoff show — even though it’s going to explore where no walkers have gone before.

AMC announced today that it decided to order two seasons of The Walking Dead‘s companion series, which doesn’t have a title but has been gearing up under the code name “Cobalt” while also being referred to by some as “Fear the Walking Dead.” The two-season commitment from AMC is still a light one, relatively speaking, as the new series’ first season will consist of only six episodes.
“We feel empowered by this two-season commitment, a serious show of faith from our network partner AMC,” TWD creator Robert Kirkman said in a press release. “I personally take it as a sign that they believe, like we do, that we’ve accomplished our goal of developing something original that can pay tribute to the original show and expand the world I created while at the same time having something new to say with this story. I’m very grateful that we now have the opportunity to tell this amazing story and show the fans that we really haven’t scratched the surface yet when it comes to The Walking Dead.”
Making it a tad riskier than the original series are the facts that “Cobalt” won’t follow characters from Kirkman’s comics. Nor will it focus on any areas readers or viewers have seen during the time of the zombie apocalypse, since it’s set in Los Angeles. Some fans have even speculated that it will be set earlier in the overall TWD timeline, making it a prequel of sorts.
All of that will become clear enough, as the new show is planned for a late summer debut. Keep tabs on both the original recipe The Walking Dead and its spinoff series over at our sister site, Undead Walking.
