Building A Spider-Man Video Game

facebooktwitterreddit

In recent years, from what I can tell, Spider-Man games on big consoles like PS4 and Xbox One have not been so great. I can agree. I’ve played many Spider-Man games. As each one has come and gone, I’ve hoped for certain features. Some would come, but wouldn’t be in the context of preference.

Here’s a list of games I have. It’s not large, but it’s decent.

  • Ultimate Spider-Man (PS2)
  • Spider-Man Friend or Foe (PS2)
  • Spider-Man Web of Shadows (Xbox 360)
  • Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions (Xbox 360)
  • Spider-Man Edge of Time (Xbox 360)
  • Amazing Spider-Man (Xbox 360)
  • Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Xbox 360)

Yeah…I need an Xbox One. Anyway, the thrill of being Spider-Man hasn’t really faded over time. Favorite? It might be Web of Shadows. I loved being able to flip between red and black suit as well as having choices during the game that sort of determined the outcome of the game.

However, the game I’m attempting to build is some sort of combination of Shattered Dimensions and Ultimate Alliance. By the way, I have both of those games but they aren’t centered around Spider-Man so I didn’t list them. Okay, so what I loved about Shattered Dimensions was being able to play with various Spider-Men. Each one had different strengths and you had to adjust your playing style for the entire game. It somewhat got repetitive, but at least, if you playing the game in the right order, you didn’t get too bored with each character. What I wished for was something like Ultimate Alliance.

In Ultimate Alliance and the second one, you played with many heroes in the Marvel Universe. You could really get into building your dream team and, if you did it right, certain teams got a boost. Some as obvious as the Fantastic Four and X-Men, but then there are some “new” teams to find as well.

So, with that said, I want a multiplayer Spider-Man game. We all love being the web-slinger. Why not use the Spider-Verse and assemble the many Spideys into one game? Then, you and your buddies can be their favorite Spider-Man and, together, you take out the many Spider-Man villains. Make sure you follow Shattered Dimensions where each Spidey is unique.

Of course, that’s multiplayer mode. For a single player, like with so many games, one guy is Spider-Man.

You could even get sick and BUILD YOUR SPIDER-MAN. Look at a pool of abilities and pick one type of web shooter, suit, fighting style, and perhaps boosts. Name that Spider-Man Dante, or whatever your name is. He’s truly you.

The playing field would look like Web of Shadows. I really liked the camera angles in that one. Of course, with many players, the idea of the Ultimate Alliance camera would work just fine. The fighting style of Spidey could be from Friend or Foe. That’s right, I actually liked the ability to upgrade your web shooters, but then being able to switch between them during the fight. Not going to spoil things but you ultimately had three options for how to web your guy, and then they were split into sub attacks. Loved it.

I really liked the web slinging from Amazing Spider-Man 2. It gave you much better control over where Spidey would swing. You controlled both of his arms. It made such a difference; something I thought it wouldn’t.

I liked the duel mode from Friend or Foe. You went head to head against your buddy and had a nice little fight. Imagine a battle of Spider-Men. You and your friend(s) in the area of choice.

Overall, the game could be a sequel of sorts to Shattered Dimensions if you wanted it too, since those Spider-Men were aware of other versions of themselves and already worked together on some level to save the day. Oh yeah, and of course when I say “Spider-Man” I do mean woman and pig as well. Anybody can play, and it (hopefully) wouldn’t be a turn off on the gender side.

This is a game I could get into. As long as you got a really good story behind it, and each Spidey stands out (that can be a difficult task), this would be absolute joy for Spider-Man fans, hero fans, action fans, and typical video game fans as well.

Alright, so what is your perfect Spider-Man game? Out of the ones you’ve played before, which one is your favorite? I’ve played games on my Nintendo SP and DS as well.
