Secret Wars: 8 More Battleworld Areas Revealed, Including Marvel 616
By Nick Tylwalk
Slowly but surely, the entire scope of the Secret Wars Battleworld is coming into focus. Marvel has been unveiling groups of zones from the planet at the center of its upcoming mega-event, and today saw eight more greet the light of day — including one that is as close to home as the regular Marvel super heroes know.
Thanks to Marvel’s nifty interactive Battleworld map, we can give you the lowdown on what’s new, so let’s jump right into them.
- Weirdworld – Kind of redundant for a patchwork planet that is perhaps the only thing left in the entire multiverse, but hey. This is the domain of Arkon, a man looking to brave horrors spawned by both magic and science in order to make his way home. You’ll find it in Weirdworld #1, appropriately enough.
- Utopolis – Sounds nice, right? The Squadron Supreme, the hero team of Earth-S, is there, which can’t be all that bad. Unfortunately, the Squadron Sinister is also on hand, and since that’s the team that got a series named after it during this event, I’m going to bet it’s the one in charge.
- Attilan – Everyone should know this one. Attilan is the home city of the Inhumans. Nice to see it survived to make it to Battleworld.
- Marvel 616 – Otherwise known as the regular Marvel Universe, or what’s left of it, anyway. From the looks of it, only part of Manhattan survived the final Incursion.
- Marvel 1610 – A.k.a. the Ultimate Universe, home to the Ultimates, Miles Morales and more. Again, it’s very possible only part of Manhattan got through the smashing together of the Marvel and Ultimate Earths. On the plus side, there might be two Times Squares.
- Killville – See, I’d much rather take my chances in a zone called Utopolis than one named Killville. M.O.D.O.K. is in charge here, and if you know what his name stands for, you’ll probably get why this place got its name. Not even a nice place to visit, I’m guessing.
- Bar Sinister – X-Men vs. Marauders like in the days of the Mutant Massacre? That’s about when I started reading X-Men comics, so sign me up!
- The Wall – It appears this might be a literal wall, built to keep the Age of Ultron and Marvel Zombies zones from spreading into the rest of Battleworld. S.H.I.E.L.D. has set up shop here, by the looks of it. Hopefully Phil Coulson is still part of it.
Study up now, because Secret Wars starts in May, and that will be here before you know it.
