Arrow Season 3, Episode 16 Synopsis: The Offer
By Nick Tylwalk
There’s nothing quite as pleasantly surprising as an unexpected job offer. It just makes you feel good to know that someone values your skills enough to reach out in the hopes that you’ll go work for them. The thing is, not all positions are created equal, and when the seemingly immortal leader of a notorious band of assassins wants you to carry on in his name … well, you’ve got some soul-searching to do.

As incredible as it might seem, that’s exactly the spot Oliver Queen now finds himself in on Arrow. Yet the title of this week’s new episode, “The Offer,” apparently has a double meaning. It’s not just about Oliver weighing the proposition he received from Ra’s al Ghul, as you can see in this official synopsis from The CW:
"Still weighed down by his last meeting with Ra’s al Ghul, Oliver returns home to find a new villain and his crew have started terrorizing Starling City – Michael Amar AKA Murmur, a man whose mouth has been sewn shut. Meanwhile, Laurel and Nyssa bond over their issues with their fathers and Nyssa make Laurel an offer. Thea is forced to come to terms with her father after Oliver brings Malcolm to the loft to recover, and Lance shuts out both Laurel and the Arrow."
So we’re guessing that Nyssa al Ghul doesn’t kill Thea Queen, even after Ollie’s sister gave her what amounted to a free shot last episode. It would also be interesting to see Laurel and Nyssa team up; I’m not sure that’s a pairing that anyone could have predicted.
The villain, Murmur, is an interesting one. In the comics, he’s a foe for the Wally West Flash, and a member of a new team of Rogues led by Blacksmith. He’s a one-time surgeon turned serial killer, and his unique blood chemistry makes him immune to poisons and other toxins. Also, he sews his own mouth shut. Pretty creepy, and certainly more a match for Arrow in terms of tone than The Flash.
As usual, there are plenty of plot threads to be explored in “The Offer.” Tune in at 8 pm tonight on The CW, and be sure to join us 20-30 minutes later for our full recap.
