Agents Of SHIELD: Does Preacher Casting News Mean The End For Raina?
By Nick Tylwalk
It hasn’t been a great season for Raina on Agents of SHIELD. Not only has she found herself played by various factions looking to exploit her for their own ends, when she finally got what she has been seeking the whole time — exposure to the Terrigen Mist — it ended up turning her into a monster instead of something beautiful as she expected. Still, if casting news from another comic book-related TV show is any indication, we might not be seeing Raina for that much longer anyway.

The show in question is Preacher, the oft-mentioned but long delayed Vertigo comic adaptation that finally has some forward motion on AMC. Deadline reported yesterday that Ruth Negga, who plays Raina, had been cast as Tulip, ex-girlfriend of main character Jesse Custer and the series’ female lead.
That doesn’t necessarily mean the end for Raina, as Preacher hasn’t yet been ordered to series. It’s just hard to see Negga having enough time to appear that often as Raina if it does, as she’ll be needed for every episode of her new show, one would think.
What makes me wonder is if Negga auditioned for the role already knowing her time on Agents of SHIELD was coming to an end. Raina has already exhibited a bit of a death wish since her unwanted transformation, and this news just increases the possibility that she’s headed for a tragic conclusion to her run on the show, possibly before the current season is up.
