1. The Avengers – Assembled at last

It’s a seminal moment in super hero cinema history when the Avengers finally come together with one common goal and vision. Though most of the film’s prior events contributed to the characters’ willingness to work together, the few seconds in this scene are like a light switch being flipped on. And man, is it a bright light!

As Bruce Banner rides a motorcycle into New York City to rendezvous with the rest of the team, Iron Man has been playing “catch me if you can” with a Chitauri leviathan. Knowing he needs some help from his new friends, Tony tells them that he’s “bringing the party” to them.

With Iron Man and the leviathan coming into view, Captain America suggests that this would be an opportune time for Bruce to raise his temper. Bruce replies that he’s “always angry.” Quickly transforming into the Hulk, he unleashes a powerful punch that causes the behemoth leviathan to take a nose-dive and flip. Iron Man helps by firing a small yet potent missile from his wrist, destroying the monstrous creature.

As the Chitauri finally understand the force they’re now up against, the camera pans around Earth’s Mightiest Heroes — Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye — finally assembled as the Avengers.
