The super hero team-up show that is spinning off from Arrow and The Flash for next year gets more intriguing by the week. It wasn’t that long ago that we heard about the series featuring three heroes who hadn’t been featured on TV before, and while those characters are still a mystery, we do know that Hawkgirl will be joining them.

That got cleared up today thanks to a report on Deadline that Ciara Renée had been cast as Hawkgirl, which is described as a lead role. While not the highest profile DC super hero, she is one that’s been prominent in the Justice League on several occasions, particularly in the Justice League animated series in the early 2000s, where she essentially took the place of Aquaman as one of the team’s founding members.

There have been multiple women to take on the Hawkgirl identity over the years, and even knowing this one is Kendra Saunders doesn’t entirely clear up which version the show will use as inspiration. One Kendra Saunders existed prior to the New 52, and the current one is featured in Earth 2 and its sister title Earth 2: World’s End.

As for Renée, she’s a relative newcomer with just a handful of theater and television roles to her credit. She’ll join a cast that includes Brandon Routh and Caity Lotz of Arrow, as well as Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell and Victor Garber, all of whom have been featured in multiple Season 1 episodes of The Flash.

There’s still no word on a name for the spinoff, which is expected to air early in 2016 on The CW.
