On Monday, March 27, 2015, we got our first peak at Ryan Reynolds in his full Deadpool costume along with a comedic sexy pose. Today, we get our first look at the Merc with a Mouth in action. Everything starts off tame as Extra host Mario Lopez — of Saved by the Bell fame — interviews Reynolds. However, it immediately goes awry and turns violently hilarious. After seeing this, I really want to hug the guy responsible for marketing. Staying true to the tone of the movie, you really couldn’t have found a better day to announce the film’s intentional R rating — that is showing this on April Fool’s Day.
WARNING: There is an instance of strong language towards the end of the clip
I also have to give props to Mario Lopez for being such a good sport. I’m sure the guy gets called “A.C. Slater” day in and day out. But he certainly turned this negative into a huge positive. His agreement to do this scene only reinforces his persona as a committed comedic performer — anything to entertain the audience. To Mario: we’re laughing with you, not at you … respect!
With the R rating announcement, fans can now breathe a sigh a relief that there will be no compromises and that the character of Deadpool will be faithful to the comics.
Deadpool will be directed by Blur Films visual effects veteran Tim Miller, written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and produced by Lauren Shuler Donner and X-Men: Days of Future Past screenwriter Simon Kinberg. The cast includes Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson / Deadpool, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Ed Skrein as Ridge, Morena Baccarin as Copycat, aka Vanessa Carlysle, and Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Production on the film started in March with a target release date of February 12, 2016.
