The first time we saw the Flash join forces with another costumed do-gooder, he was the pupil and the Arrow was the teacher. This time around, we might be in for some role reversal, as Barry Allen is going to be joined in Central City by a less experienced good guy from Starling City.
I’m talking about Ray Palmer, whose career as the Atom is off to a rocky start. But when he needs help, he knows where to turn, as you’ll see in the official synopsis of this week’s new episode of The Flash, entitled “All Star Team Up”:
"Felicity Smoak and Ray Palmer visit S.T.A.R. Labs when Ray needs help with his Atom suit. But they are called into action when a meta-human named Brie Larvin unleashes hundreds of robotic bees to attack and kill her coworkers. Also: A group dinner with Barry, Felicity, Ray, Iris and Eddie turns into a disaster."
Can’t wait to see Cisco Ramon’s reaction to the Atom suit, by the way. That should be a classic.
Who is Brie Larvin, you might ask? She seems to be a gender-swapped version of the Bug-Eyed Bandit, an Atom foe from the comics who also invented and controlled mechanical insects and was named Bertram Larvan. On TV, she’ll be played by Emily Kinney of The Walking Dead fame, providing at least a little comfort for all of the fans who miss Beth Greene.
I’m hoping that this episode provides at least some light moments, as the increased focus on Barry getting closer to proving that Harrison Wells is the Reverse-Flash is exciting but also necessarily serious. Having Barry and Ray together should make for an interesting dynamic, one that could be a nice palate cleanser before we race to the finish of Season 1.
Be sure to catch “All Star Team Up” at 8 pm on Tuesday, April 14 on The CW, and check back here about 20-30 minutes after it ends for our full recap. About that same time, our friends at theStream.tv will be doing another edition of The Flash After Show, where hosts Dylan Landon, Devon Stewart, Lauren Mayhew and Jack Hind will be tackling all the latest plot twists.
