‘Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire were good as Spider-Man’ says Stan Lee

facebooktwitterreddit

The headline is a bit of a paraphrase as it’s not exactly what Stan Lee said, but the gist of it is absolutely true. Spider-Man co-creator and Marvel comics legend Stan Lee recently spoke about both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s run as Spider-Man and said he was a fan of both of them.

Maybe it’s an easy role to play. I don’t know

The comments arose from an interview that took place between comicbook.com and Stan Lee during the recent Gillette event. Stan was asked what he thought about Spider-Man joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the legend responded that he was happy Spider-Man was back home.

However he was then asked what he thought about Andrew Garfield not continuing as Spider-Man as a consequence of the deal between Sony and Marvel/Disney. Lee replied ““I don’t know if I’m easy to please. Andrew Garfield did a great job.”

Comicbook.com goes on to report that “Lee also added that he thought Tobey Maguire did a wonderful job as well, before joking, “Maybe it’s an easy role to play. I don’t know.”

So, as you can see Lee was happy with both Maguire and Garfield’s depiction of Spider-Man, and to be honest I can see the appeal of both. However the question now remains, who will the next on-screen Spider-Man be and will Stan Lee like their portrayal of his character?
