Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice IMAX Trailer Event

I have just returned from the awesome Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice IMAX Trailer Event!  The short, but sweet 15 minutes were nothing short of amazing.  How?  Read on and find out how it all played out:

4:45PM I leave work from San Francisco and there’s an SUV parked, with no driver, right behind my car.  Are you kidding me!?

4:50PM The valet finally moves it and I’m on my way, but not before hitting a bottleneck right before getting on the Bay Bridge — some car rear-ended a U-Haul.  What are the chances of this happening on the the day I need to get home early?

5:00PM I’m finally driving at a consistent 30 miles per hour.

5:05PM It finally speeds up and I step on the gas.

5:15PM I pull into my parking space and run to the theater (yes, as a movie nut, I live in a complex that has an AMC).

5:22PM I get in line and I’m the sixth person.  I strike up a conversation with a fellow fan and before you know it, it’s …

6:30PM Warner Bros. representatives come outside and hand us vouchers to write our email addresses on.  What are they for?  The studio will be emailing us passes to see Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice at this very theater a whole week before its release date.  Sweet!  I think I’ve never scrutinized my own handwriting more than this moment, worried that a rogue pencil mark would make the studio send my ticket into the Internet aether where I will not become one of the coveted few.

6:50PM The doors open and we file into the only IMAX auditorium.  As I walk past flat cardboard boxes, I’m salivating already — the posters director Zack Snyder tweeted out!  I climb all the way to the top of the stadium seating and plant myself in the center.

6:58PM Warner Bros. representatives welcome us to the event and communicate Snyder’s thanks for our attendance.  They make fun of the trailer leak that occurred on Thursday, April 16.  Nicely, they ask us not to record this trailer showing.

7:00PM The lights dim and Zack Snyder appears on-screen.  Standing in front of the Batmobile, he thanks us and asks us not to bootleg this trailer.

7:03PM The trailer finally starts.  Everything is the same up until Superman’s insignia is shown.  We now see why this event was so special: Superman running at Batman.  Batman running at Superman.  As the two are about to violently meet in the middle, Superman goes airborne with his fist out, and Batman preparing to grapple him.  Right before the two clash, the screen goes black and the credits appear.  I was in awe.  The two most iconic superheroes are finally meeting in an explosive match-up on the silver screen.

Zack Snyder reappears and tells us that the trailer will be shown again.  Before he does, he gives us some trivia: the end scene where Superman goes up against Batman was filmed entirely in IMAX and will never appear in the publicly released trailer.  It was shown only for this event.  On top of that, he’s giving us posters as another treat.

The trailer rolls again and everyone is dead silent.  As the final Superman/Batman showdown scene plays, the audience cheers and claps.  This is what every DC fan has been waiting for.

7:15PM We’re let out and we turn in our email-adorned vouchers while the representatives from Warner Bros. hand us our posters:

This was a very successful night.  I can tell you the leakers took nothing away from the hype of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.  How can you not love Snyder and Warner Bros. after this?  We’re getting a free preview screening one week before everyone else, got to see some exclusive footage, and received souvenirs to take home.  Nothing can ruin the rest of my week.  Then again, if they announce that the film will be delayed … let’s not go there.
