Continuing our daily Avengers: Age of Ultron Primer, we bring you a quick rundown of Quicksilver. The speedster mutant, played by Aaron-Taylor Johnson, who has been prominently featured in the film’s promotional materials and trailers. Here’s are some facts to know about him.
First introduced in X-Men #4 (March 1964), Peter Maximoff, a.k.a Quicksilver, was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Initially, he was only able to run faster than the speed of sound, which was around 770 miles per hour. However, his abilities were dramatically upgraded after he was captured by the High Evolutionary, a geneticist who evolved his own intelligence into god-like status, and given Isotope E.
After this “upgrade”, Quicksilver has been seen to easily reach speeds of Mach 4 (3,080 miles per hour). Because he’s also been shown to travel back in time, it’s been assumed that Quicksilver can run faster than the speed of light, which is in excess of 186,000 miles per second.
