Avengers: Age Of Ultron Primer – Captain America’s Shield
By Steve Lam
Captain America’s Other Shields
Early in the comics, Captain America had his shield destroyed many times, but it would always reappear perfect in the next issue. This was retconned and explained that Tony Stark borrowed the original shield to study it and Captain America was given steel replicas to use in the meantime.
When Captain America became known as The Captain, he was given a True Adamantium shield by Tony Stark.
Captain America also employed the use of an energy shield — a shield created by photons emitted from the gauntlet. The energy shield was first introduced in Captain America #9 (September 1998).
