Avengers: Age Of Ultron Primer – Captain America’s Shield

The Shield in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

In Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), Steve Rogers is immediately drawn to the circular Vibranium shield when Howard Stark shows him a range of options for personal protection.

In The Avengers (2012), during the forest fight over custody of Loki, Captain America uses the shield to defend a strike from a Mjolnir-wielding Thor.  Though the shield easily holds up, the resulting shockwave from the two legendary weapons causes a section of the forest to be destroyed.

In The Avengers (2012), during the Chitauri invasion of New York City, Captain America, in a team effort, uses the shield to focus and aim one of Iron Man’s repulsor beams.

In Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Captain America uses the kinetic-absorbing properties of the shield to cushion his fall from several stories out of the Triskelion, when he’s trying to escape Hydra-loyal S.H.I.E.L.D. and S.T.R.I.K.E. agents.
