Avengers: Age of Ultron’s Robert Downey Jr teases Iron Man involvement in Marvel’s Spider-Man film
By Daniel Wood
Robert Downey Jr is arguably the lynch pin of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his Iron Man film kicked the whole thing off and even now you can see him busting the heads of evil robots in Avengers: Age of Ultron and he isn’t stopping there.
The next film, Captain America 3: Civil War will see Downey Jr return to the Iron Man suit to battle his fellow Avenger, Captain America, in a cinematic retelling of the popular comic book storyline of the same name!
But did Robert Downey Jr tease his involvement in another heavily anticipated upcoming Marvel film? And I’m not taking about Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, I’m on about Marvel’s as yet untitled 2017 Spider-Man movie.
Downey told E! Online that he’d like to see the ‘old-school Peter Parker’ join the Avengers which is a development he could see Tony Stark get behind. He then went on to hint that perhaps Stark can be directly involved in Spider-Man’s crime-fighting.
"“The funny thing is, it all feeds back into itself because now it’s got me thinking that that would be something that Stark Industries would actually be diverting funds to and all that.”"
Now this initially seems like the set-up for Spider-Man’s debut in Civil War. Tony Stark and Steve Rogers are fighting, Stark recruits Spider-Man, a street-level amateur superhero and funds him, introducing the Iron Spider suit and then the rest of the movie unfolds.
However, if that’s the case, or even if it isn’t it could also mean that Downey Jr, as Stark, is hinting at a cameo, or small role, for Marvel’s Spider-Man film.
