Continuing our daily Avengers: Age of Ultron Primer, we bring you a quick rundown of Black Widow. The mysterious heroine who started her career as an assassin was given a bit more attention in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014).
According to director and writer Joss Whedon, Avengers: Age of Ultron will continue giving audiences some more backstory of our favorite female Avenger. Her past is definitely an interesting one as we’ll see in this latest installment of our primer series.
Created by Stan Lee, Don Rico, and Don Heck, Black Widow made her first appearance in Tales of Suspense #52 (April 1964). Initially, she was set up as a Russian spy antagonist to Tony Stark’s Iron Man, and had no defining costume.
The Russian government would later give her a costume and provide her with state-of-the-art weaponry. However, she betrayed the Russians and defect to the United States. Years later, she would become the sixteenth member of the Avengers.
