Continuing our daily Avengers: Age of Ultron Primer, we bring you a quick rundown of the Hulk’s abilities. The Hulk — a gamma radiation-enabled manifestation of Dr. Bruce Banner’s anger — is a very powerful being. Though his anger is uncontrollable at times, deep down, he always ends up doing the right thing. And that’s why he’s a hero and part of the Avengers.
The Hulk has been with the Avengers team since the beginning. As the Hulk, he can match and surpass strength feats with Thor. As Bruce Banner, he can match wits and scientific knowledge with Tony Stark. This gives our favorite green giant plenty of opportunities to share some common interests and make some friends. However, as much as the Hulk is an ally, his temper can be unpredictable which is why Tony Stark developed the Hulkbuster armor. But is that enough? In this primer, we explore the amazing abilities of the Hulk.
Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the Hulk made his debut in The Incredible Hulk #1 (May 1962). In the beginning, the Hulk didn’t even have his signature green color. Stan Lee intended the Hulk to be gray. However, due to difficulties in getting a consistent shade of gray — which sometimes also had a green hue — Lee chose to go full green for his character in the second issue.
In his initial outings, Bruce Banner only changed into the Hulk at sunset and would revert back to Bruce at sunrise. Through the years, the Hulk has gotten stronger and more impervious to damage. As we’ll see, the Hulk has one of the greatest healing abilities in the Marvel universe and can be considered one of the most powerful.
