The Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

The Hulk made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in The Incredible Hulk (2008).  During a deleted post-credits scene in the film, Bruce Banner, played by Edward Norton, was seen attempting suicide in the arctic by shooting himself in the head through his mouth.  The result was Banner reflexively transforming into the Hulk in order to heal.  The shockwave of the Hulk caused an avalanche which dislodged the ice surrounding Captain America.  As the avalanche rushes towards the screen, Captain America’s shield is visible.

This scene was ultimately deleted due to it being overly dark and violent.  In The Avengers (2008), Bruce Banner, now played by Mark Ruffalo, alludes to the suicide attempt in a heated conversation with Nick Fury and the rest of the Avengers.

Mark Ruffalo will reprise his role as Bruce Banner / The Hulk in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War Part 1, and Avengers: Infinity Way Part 2.  However, there are no plans for him to be in a future solo Hulk film.

Join us tomorrow as we give some more quick facts in our on-going Avengers: Age of Ultron Primer series.
