Is Marvel Talking To Ryan Phillippe To Play Iron Fist?

That seems to be the buzz that’s gathering after reports that Ryan Phillippe was talking to Marvel about … something.

Specifically, on “The Howard Stern Show,” the actor confirmed that he was talking to Marvel on the subject of “like Netflix, a series, possibly.” And yes, if he is discussing Netflix, it would have to be a series, unless he was just going to pop in as a villain or something.

Still, it seems likely that if Marvel wants Phillippe for something, it’s in a significant role of some sort. With the main roles already cast for AKA Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, that leaves Iron Fist as the logical landing spot. Casting Phillippe in the lead role there would give a show about a relatively obscure Marvel hero some star power, and let’s face it, he does kind of look like Danny Rand.

After seeing the fight choreography in Daredevil, I have high hopes for Iron Fist, particularly if the writers are able to draw on the incredible Ed Brubaker/Matt Fraction/David Aja run on The Immortal Iron Fist as inspiration. I could see Phillippe being able to pull off a man caught between two worlds.

Here’s a long shot possibility worth considering too: how about Phillippe as Bullseye on Season 2 of Daredevil? You know the master assassin is going to show up eventually, and after Vincent D’Onofrio killed it as Wilson Fisk, it’s only logical to expect Marvel would take a look at a known quantity to put into the villain role for next season.

Really, any number of options are in play right now, which is what makes this report so interesting. We’ll have to stay tuned for an announcement, but maybe Phillippe should brush up on the pronunciation of K’un Lun now, just in case.
