Should Miles Morales be called Scarlet Spider after Secret Wars?
By Daniel Wood
I really want to start this article off by saying this isn’t a news article. I am not reporting Miles Morales being called Scarlet Spider as fact, I am merely throwing it out there as a possibility and encouraging some friendly internet discussion.
So, we know several things about the state of the Marvel Comic Universe going forward after Secret Wars, especially when it comes to Spider-Man. We know that the Ultimate Universe will cease to exist (at least as a universe separate to anything else, obviously parts of it will live on in the 616 Universe.) We know that Miles Morales is staying in the main 616 universe and we know that Peter Parker is also not going anywhere after Secret Wars.
So, apart from the obvious Spider-Men title (which I can’t wait for) what is going to happen with arguably the two current main male Spider-Man characters, Peter Parker and Miles Morales (sorry Spidey 2099, Kaine ... Spider-Ham?)
They could both just be ‘Spider-Man’ but given that they’re more than likely going to be interacting not only with each other but with the same set of supporting characters for the most part that could get a tad confusing. So I reckon it’s very likely that one of them will get their name changed.
Now, in the Free Comic Book Day issue of All-New, All-Different Avengers Miles Morales is never directly called Spider-Man (thanks Superior Spider-Talk for the early review). Now that site initially thought it could mean that Peter Parker might be killed-off but what if the reason Miles wasn’t directly called Spider-Man is because they’re building up to a big reveal of a new name for him
And what if that name was Scarlet Spider. He has the darker/slightly different Spider-Man outfit and let’s face it, whenever there’s an alternate Spider-Man running around the same universe as Amazing Spider-Man like Ben Reilly or Kaine they always end up being called Scarlet Spider.
What do you guys think, would you read Miles Morales: Scarlet Spider?
