Arrow Synopsis – Season 3, Episode 22: This Is Your Sword

If Oliver Queen is bluffing during Ra’s al Ghul’s attempt to force him to lead the League of Assassins on Arrow, he might want to show his hand sooner rather than later.

More from TV

For one thing, the Demon’s Head wants to have Oliver in an arranged marriage with his daughter, Nyssa al Ghul, to ensure the bloodline remains strong, or something like that. Shades of what Ra’s wanted from Batman and Talia al Ghul in the comics, for sure. It’s worth noting that neither Ollie nor Nyssa looked particularly thrilled about it either.

There’s also the small matter of the final task Oliver needs to perform to complete his transformation to Al Sah-him, which is to unleash the Alpha/Omega bioweapon on Starling City. Considering that’s the exact opposite of what he’s been trying to do for almost three seasons as the Arrow, he’s probably not going to go through with that. But what’s his way out?

These last two episodes of Season 3 should be tense, beginning with “This is Your Sword.” Here’s the official synopsis from The CW:

"Oliver/Al Sah-him (Stephen Amell) finishes his training and is left with two final tasks to become the next Ra’s al Ghul. Ra’s (guest star Matt Nable) threatens Nyssa (guest star Katrina Law) and delivers some shocking news. Meanwhile, Malcolm (John Barrowman) makes a surprising offer to Team Arrow and Thea (Willa Holland) goes to see Roy (Colton Haynes)."

The current set-up means that Roy almost has to stay gone for the rest of the season, given that he (falsely) revealed himself as the Arrow to take the heat off Oliver. It’s ironic that as noble as that gesture was, it was basically for naught, seeing as Ollie stayed out of jail but ended up having to accept the offer from Ra’s anyway.

Now that Thea has unleashed her inner Speedy, maybe we’ll see her come back and help fight whatever battle awaits in the finale after a talk with Roy. Arrow always brings the heat down the stretch, so this episode and the finale should be appointment TV.

We’ll be watching Wednesday night at 8 pm, with our usual recap and review to follow about 20 minutes after the East Coast broadcast ends. We’ll also be tuned in to the Arrow After Show so that hosts Ann Campea, Kaori Takee, David Griffin and Michael A. Medina can get us properly prepared for the finale.
