“Marvel’s Agent Carter” Season 2: A Wish List

Our prayers have been answered: Marvel’s Agent Carter has been renewed for a second season! That near-cult following, that dedicated fanbase gets more Peggy Carter, more Hayley Atwell come next television season. I personally adored every moment of that first season (mostly because that time period is my spiritual home).

Season 1 of Agent Carter focused on Leviathan, Howard Stark, and touched on the Red Room. With Chief Dooley dead and Jack Thompson now in charge of the SSR, there should be some changes coming. After the season finale, I wrote about why it deserved a second season. Now I have a few ideas on what Season 2 should do.

1. Focus on Dottie Underwood. It was one of the few dangling plot threads from the finale. She was shoved out a second story window and onto the wing of a plane, blood everywhere, only to disappear while Peggy talked Howard down and Sousa and Thompson took out Dr. Ivchenko. The simplest explanation is that she retreated back to Russia to consort with Leviathan. They’re a super evil, super secret organization, and one lost battle shouldn’t be enough to take them down. They will be back with a vengeance and have their best agents/spies on the case.

2. More Backstory with the Red Room/Black Widow Project. Side-flashes to Dottie in Russia, back at the new HQ for the Red Room with dozens of girls at her disposal, treating them with bitter distain as she works through her own frustrations at being beat by Agent Carter and company. The small glimpses we were given of the Black Widow Project in Avengers: Age of Ultron had me thoroughly intrigued. So why not show us how it started and how it begins to evolve into the program that trained Natasha Romanoff (and how about hints of Yelena Belova?).

3. Howard Stark Cameos. Season one gave us a down-on-his-luck Howard yet still horribly arrogant and full of himself. Season two should show us how exactly he brings his name out of the mud and rebuilds Stark Industries. He’s still going to remain in contact with Agent Carter; they have too many connections for that to be a forgotten friendship.

He should start supplying her with new Stark Tech that he wants to give a try in the field. Nothing too dangerous, of course. Or perhaps give her updates about his search for Steve Rogers, but that might be too much. Or even …

4. Hints at Forming SHIELD. Or even full-fledged creating it. How much more can the SSR do, really? Now that Stark’s name is clear and he has full control of his finances, he should be able to start his own organization that won’t try to arrest him over something he didn’t do.

We all know Agent Carter goes on to create SHIELD, so give us a good look at how exactly she does it.

5. Friendship with Angie. Who doesn’t want to see them living it up in one of Stark’s mansions? Angie was so impressed with a phone in every room; how will she feel about self-flushing toilets (probably) and couches every ten feet? It gives us a normal side of Agent Carter as well.

6. Changes in the Workplace. Jack Thompson knows what Peggy Carter can do. He has also bared one of his darkest secrets to her. Yes, this will still be a very misogynistic setting just because of the time period, but there should be a lack of skulking around and going behind the SSR’s back. There should be a bit more trust, a bit more give and take, and wouldn’t you love to see Agent Carter flourish in a male-centric environment?

Likewise, don’t start focusing on the romances too much. Season one did so well with just the base hints of Sousa’s crush. Keep it like that. She literally just started getting over Steve by pouring his blood into the river. Give her some time to regroup.

7. Jarvis/Peggy Team-Ups. Please, please, please. This needs no explaining. James D’Arcy back as Jarvis. Shall we bribe him with Benny Goodman?

8. Hints of the Winter Soldier. I know I said this in my other article, but wouldn’t it be fantastic if we could see how exactly Bucky Barnes’ character moves throughout the next 70 years? Alexander Pierce toasts him and comments about how his work shaped history. Show us how he did it. If you can get Sebastian Stan, great. If you can’t, just have them mention someone with a metal arm. Or mention the Russian slugs with no rifling.

9. Captain America Cameo. I will personally pay Chris Evans for a 20-second cameo in a flashback to war times between him and Peggy. He’s cool with getting paid in candy bars, right?

No matter what the writers come up with, I couldn’t be happier for a second season of Marvel’s Agent Carter, whether it’s another “mini series” of episodes or a larger order (I’d be down for a season one Sleepy Hollow number of 12 or 13).
