Bryan Singer Confirms Caliban In New X-Men: Apocalypse Image
By Nick Tylwalk
Hold on to your horses, X-Men fans. Or more precisely, hold on for the Horsemen of Apocalypse.
That sure seems to be what X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer is hinting at with his latest Instagram image from the set, which he captioned by saying, “Shooting Caliban’s place of “business” #Xmen #XMenApocalypse.”
Looks like a sewer or some other kind of subterranean tunnel, no? That certainly fits with the Caliban from the comics, who was originally part of a literally underground group of mutants called the Morlocks when he first met the X-Men.
He later submitted himself to Apocalypse, first becoming the villain’s Hellhound, and later one of the Four Horsemen — servants of Apocalypse who correspond to the biblical Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse — Pestilence. If he’s in the movie, it’s almost certainly going to be in that capacity, which means we should get ready to see the other Horsemen as well, particularly since we already got a very quick look at them in the post-credits scene of X-Men: Days of Future Past.
That scene was in the distant past, so the guess here is that Apocalypse drafts different beings to serve as his Horsemen at different points in history, which would also be consistent with storylines from Marvel comics. It’s exciting to see Singer and company dig this deeply into X-Men lore, so if this is the final movie for this particular team, it should be one heck of a finale.
X-Men: Apocalypse is due in theaters on May 27, 2016.
