When originally announced, the initial wave of Marvel Netflix series was pretty simple. It was 13 episodes each for Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist in their own solo shows, followed by a Defenders mini-series. Maybe I was the only one who thought this, but once Season 1 of Daredevil was announced, I assumed we’d see the other series in fairly short succession and the group show right after all of them finished.

Of course plans do change, and the tremendous critical and fan reaction to Daredevil undoubtedly made a Season 2 for that series a priority. Since it’s coming in early 2016, it shuffled the deck just a bit, putting the Man Without Fear back on Netflix before some of his friends will even debut. Okay, cool.
But if Heroic Hollywood EIC Umberto Gonzalez and his sources are correct, it could be a while until we see that Defenders mini-series. As in not until 2017. That’s kind of a bummer.
On the positive side, maybe Marvel’s “non-team” will have more members when it finally forms. Gonzalez seems quite confident we’ll see an Elektra series. Heroes we’ve discussed on this site, like Ghost Rider, Punisher and Blade, could also be coming to Netflix, though there are special effects and violence considerations for them (though in this writer’s opinion, Daredevil was plenty violent).
Having some or all of them on Netflix would make me feel better about not getting to see Defenders for two more years. And if the quality of Marvel’s shows stays high, it will make the anticipation that much sweeter when it finally hits.
