James Gunn Won’t Tell You The Title Of Guardians Of The Galaxy 2

No one really thinks the second movie of Marvel’s hit spacefaring team is going to be called Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Except for the Iron Man series, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the land of names with colons, and director James Gunn clearly has a subtitle in mind. He’s just not willing to share it … yet.

Gunn is also the writer for the sequel, and since he’s pretty open about sharing with the fans on social media, he decided to share the fact that he’s completed the first draft of the movie’s script on Tuesday. He’s keeping the real title under wraps for now, though.

The first Guardians of the Galaxy had a script originally written by Nicole Perlman, but Gunn made extensive changes to it once he came aboard as director. He acted a bit prickly in the media over having to share credit after the film went on to tremendous success, though Perlman was more gracious about admitting that the tone and final group of characters that made it to the screen belonged to Gunn.

There should be no such issues this time around with Gunn working solo on writing duties, even if Marvel decides to bring someone else in at some point to polish up the script. The director has already hinted that fans should expect an addition or two to the the team, more female characters and a focus on Star-Lord’s father, the identity of whom will not be the same as in the comics.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2, or whatever it’s eventually going to be called, will hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
