Brian Michael Bendis, David Marquez To Guide Invincible Iron Man
By Nick Tylwalk
Maybe we won’t have to wait for that All-New, All-Different Marvel Previews issue to learn which new titles and creative teams are coming after Secret Wars. Marvel made a big reveal today, showing off a new Invincible Iron Man #1 with a brand new, high profile creative team.

As announced on Newsarama and at Special Edition: NYC, Brian Michael Bendis will write the new Invincible Iron Man series, with David Marquez on art. The book will mark Bendis’ first stint penning a solo Iron Man book, though with years of experience with the character thanks to his lengthy stint on all things Avengers. Marquez has done almost all of his Marvel work with Bendis to date, including 15 issues of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man. We already know he has a good handle on the new Iron Man armor since it’s his art gracing Marvel’s recent “All-New, All-Different” teaser images.
The previous Iron Man relaunch saw Tony Stark remain inverted as a result of AXIS in the short-lived Superior Iron Man series. This time around, there was a question about whether it would even be Tony in the new suit, as the Free Comic Book Day issue of Avengers left the identity of the Armored Avenger open to some debate. But Bleeding Cool’s reporting from Special Edition: NYC makes it pretty clear it will be Stark, since it mentions that Iron Man “have his biological parents revealed, and will be getting a new armour, a new villain – and a new girlfriend.” Sorry Pepper.
Regardless of who’s inside the armor, Invincible Iron Man #1 should be a draw for both longtime fans like yours truly and the simply curious alike. I’m enjoying Secret Wars enough to not want it to rush by to get to the new stuff, but this series will at least provide some motivation for looking forward to what’s next.
