Matt Ryan Thanks Constantine Fans For Their Support

The Hellblazers did their part, and the star of Constantine knows it. Ultimately, all the social media love in the world wasn’t enough to save Constantine, which is now officially dead after NBC decided not to renew it and no other network or cable channel wanted to give it a second chance.

The outpouring of support from the fans wasn’t lost on John Constantine himself, as actor Matt Ryan acknowledged this week. His message to people who loved the show was brief but heartfelt.

It is indeed disappointing that the series won’t have a chance to keep going, especially since it featured generally smarter writing than some other comic book shows that are still on TV (ahem, I’m looking at you Gotham). People came up with any number of potential matches for a series with the tone and sensibility of Constantine, from Syfy to The CW, but those outlets chose to go with new and untested fare over a show that aired to uninspiring numbers last season Friday nights on NBC.

Ryan will go on to star on Broadway and continue to be confused with that guy who plays quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, but it was certainly a classy move on his part to thank the Constantine fans while he made peace with the fact that the show’s run is definitely over.
