Speaking with MTV News, Jesse Eisenberg, who portrays Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice main villain Lex Luthor, described his take on the Man of Steel’s famous arch-nemesis.  He also talked about Dawn of Justice screenwriter Chris Terrio’s work in molding the villain for the big screen:

"It’s a really great character that’s written by this guy, Chris Terrio, he’s a phenomenal writer … He loves my character in the same way I love my character.  He put a lot of work into it.  It’s a great character, there’s an emotional core to the character.  It’s not this silly, villainous character."

When the interviewer compares Eisenberg’s Luthor to the one most older fans are familiar with — Gene Hackman’s portrayal — the actor dives into the psychological aspects of his interpretation:

"No, I mean there’s no way to do anything. I mean it’s an entirely different thing.  But also the tone of that movie is so different.  Like that movie wouldn’t be made like that now.  Like the way we expect movies to be now is to have some kind of like … I mean it’s for the best probably.  ‘Cause there’s some kind of more psychological … accuracy.  That the person is coming from a place … you know … that’s probably diagnosable in some ways … This is a real depiction of a person who’s like, who thinks these things."
