Arrow, Olicity Need Your Votes In MTV Fandom Awards

Finally, someone has come up with a better way to determine bragging rights between fandoms than seeing which ones can coordinate trending hashtags the best.

That someone is MTV, which is handing out the second annual MTV Fandom Awards at the MTV Fandom Fest on Thursday, July 9 at Petco Park in San Diego — a date which, not coincidentally, is during Comic-Con International. The awards will be recorded and shown on MTV at 8 pm on Sunday, July 12. That broadcast will be the finale of the network’s Fandom Week, which kicks off on July 8 and features celebrities and regular fans sharing their favorite shows, movies and characters across all of MTV’s social platforms.

Naturally, the nominees for the awards include more than one super hero and comic book property. Arrow is one of the leaders, earning a nomination for “Fandom of the Year” and another for “Ship of the Year” for Felicity Smoak and Ray Palmer. Just kidding, that second nomination is actually for Olicity, which became a real and ongoing thing at the end of Season 3.

Marvel movies Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Age of Ultron are also up for “Fandom of the Year” in the Movies category. Voting is taking place right now, so hit up MTV.com to throw your support for your favorite super hero properties.

“The ‘Fandom of the Year’ award celebrates some of the loudest fandoms in pop culture,” Ryan Kroft, Senior Vice President of Programming Specials and Events for MTV, said in a press release. “We love having the bracket back in action for the second year in a row.”

As for Olicity, the voting for “Ship of the Year” is taking place on Tumblr, and specifically on the MTV Tumblr. Head over there beginning on Thursday, June 25 and make your vote count. And if I know Olicity fans, I’ve got no doubt they’ll be a force to be reckoned with.
