Batgirl DLC for ‘Arkham Knight’ Drops July 14th

Even though Rocksteady Games is hard at work fixing the embarrassing glitchy-ness of the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight, they still had time to complete the Batgirl: A Matter of Family DLC. Now we’ve learned a little about it and when we can expect it to hit.

More from Video Games

Turns out the development was outsourced to WB Games Montreal who created Batman: Arkham Origins. The gameplay will take place in a new area of Gotham called Seagate Amusement Park, which is above an old oil rig that The Joker has, of course, turned into an elaborate complex of evil trappings. Design producer Justin Vazquez talked to EW a bit about the thought behind it.

"We wanted to recreate the feeling of being trapped in a bizarre and unique open environment playing a game of cat and mouse with the Joker."

Seems logical. Since Barbara Gordon was an integral part of early Arkham games as Oracle just how does she stand out now that she’s Batgirl again?

"Hacking is really what separates her from the other characters. It’s a gameplay mechanic with which the player can create situations for Batgirl to really shine. Our intention was that Batgirl should be less powerful than Batman, but that Batgirl plus hacking could give her opportunities do things that not even Batman can pull off."

The new DLC will utilize the Dual Play feature of the game by bringing us a Big Boss fight that let’s us switch between Batgirl and Robin against Joker and Harley Quinn. The best news? Harley will finally appear in her original Batman: The Animated Series costume! Get excited.

Batgirl: A Matter of Family drops July 14th as part of the Arkham Knight DLC season-pass holders on PS4 and Xbox One for $40 or it can be yours standalone on July 21 for $6.99
