Guardians Of The Galaxy Animated Series Premiere Date Announced
By Nick Tylwalk
There are still about two years to go before we see the Guardians of the Galaxy on the big screen again, but the wait to see them in animated form is going to be a lot shorter than that.
TV Line revealed that we’ll be seeing the oddball team of spacefaring Marvel heroes starting in August with 10 two-minute shorts — two for each member of the team — in a similar manner to the way Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes was originally introduced. The first episode will then debut on Disney XD on Saturday, September 5 at 9 pm before the series has its ongoing premiere on Saturday, September 26 at 9:30.
The schedule for the shorts is as follows:
- Aug. 1: Star Lord, Part 1 (8:58 pm) and Part 2 (10:28 pm)
- Aug. 8: Groot, Part 1 (8:58 pm) and Part 2 (9:58 pm)
- Aug. 15: Rocket Raccoon, Part 1 (8:58 pm) and Part 2 (9:58 pm)
- Aug. 22: Drax, Part 1 (8:58 pm) and Part 2 (9:58 pm)
- Aug. 29: Gamora, Part 1 (8:58 pm) and Part 2 (9:58 pm)
Also part of the announcement was the poster shown below, which carries the tagline “We’re back. You’re welcome.” This helps reinforce the idea that these are the Marvel Cinematic Universe versions of the Guardians that we’ll be seeing, though how closely the animated series is linked to the MCU films remains to be seen.
Guardians of the Galaxy features the voice talents of Will Friedle (Star-Lord), Trevor Devall (Rocket Raccoon), Vanessa Marshall (Gamora), David Sobolov (Drax) and Kevin Michael Richardson. Thanos is also said to be a key figure in the series, but the person voicing the Mad Titan has yet to be revealed.
