Via TVLine, we have news that Neal McDonough has been cast in the main villain role of Damien Darhk for Season 4 of The CW’s Arrow. Audiences may remember that the character of Damien Darhk was introduced by name at the end of Season 3 when Ra’s Al Ghul told Oliver Queen the story of a friend who betrayed him. Darhk would later visit Starling City, but made a quick exit and left a proxy who was killed by a sniper.
In the comics, Damien Darhk was a major player in the criminal underworld and a member of HIVE (Hierarchy of International Vengeance and Extermination) — a supervillain team who are adversaries to the superhero team Teen Titans.
Neal McDonough made his debut in 1991 on the critically acclaimed series China Beach. He would later guest star in Quantum Leap and JAG, and would star in multiple television shows and television movies. Most recently, he starred in Justified and Suits.
In film, McDonough made his debut in Angels in the Outfield (1994) as Whit Bass. He was later cast in multiple blockbuster films which included Star Trek: First Contact (1996), Fire Down Below (1997), Minority Report (2002), and Captain America: The First Avenger (2011).
This isn’t the first comic book role for McDonough. Coincidentally, in 2010, he provided the voice for Green Arrow in DC Showcase: Green Arrow. He also voiced other DC characters in animation and video games. In an ironic twist, he has also been cast by DC’s rival publisher Marvel as various characters in video games, animation, and live-action: Firebrand in the animated Iron Man; Bruce Banner in the animated The Incredible Hulk, and Dum Dum Dugan, a role he played in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), Agents of SHIELD, and Agent Carter.
Arrow Season 4 will premiere on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 8PM EST.
