Comic-Con 2015: Jay Garrick To Appear In The Flash Season 2
By Steve Lam
Via Comic Book Resources, we have confirmation that the character of Jay Garrick will appear in The Flash Season 2. Audiences will remember seeing Garrick’s signature silver helmet flying through the portal in the Season 1 finale of The Flash. Many thought the object was just merely an Easter egg or gimmick, but DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns remarked on it at Comic-Con:
"That’s not an Easter egg, that’s a story point … We’re going to see Jay."
RELATED: Who is Jay Garrick?
I wasn’t at the panel, but I can imagine the crowd going wild when Johns said that. We’re talking about a major character and a live-action show respecting the lore of The Flash and treating the story as it should be.
Created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Harry Lampert, Jay Garrick was the original Flash of the Golden Age. The character made his debut in Flash Comics #1 in January 1940. The initial characterization of Garrick had him as a college student who became a speedster after he inhaled hard water vapors. In the character’s 1960s reintroduction, he gained his superhuman abilities from exposure to heavy water. Garrick would later go on to become a charter member of the Justice Society of America, the first superhero team and a precursor to the Justice League of America.
As of this report, there is no confirmation of who will be playing Jay Garrick.
The Flash Season 2 will premiere on The CW on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 8:00PM EST.
