UPDATE 7/11/2015 8:20AM PST: Additional information from ComicBookMovie.com state that Batman: The Killing Joke will also feature an original 15-minute prologue that “helps set up the story, giving even longtime fans of the story something new to look forward to.”

At the Justice League: Gods and Monsters screening and panel in Ballroom 20, animator and producer Bruce Timm announced that the critically acclaimed Alan Moore classic Batman: The Killing Joke will be brought to life as a feature-length animated movie.

The one-shot graphic novel was not only dark, but contained events that had repercussions throughout the Batman universe of stories: Barbara Gordon becoming paralyzed, leading her to become Oracle; and an origin story which gave The Joker a tragic background of a failed comedian and pathetic family man.

DC Entertainment later made the announcement official by tweeting it out to all of its followers:

Along with that tweet, the company also confirmed other animated films for 2016 – Batman: Bad Blood and Justice League vs. Titans.

As of this report, there is no other news on an exact release date or voice talents attached to the project.
