Comic-Con 2015: Better Image of Colossus In Deadpool Trailer
By Steve Lam
If you thought you saw some giant metallic being in the leaked trailer for Deadpool and thought, “Hmmm, that really looks like Colossus”, well, you were right. An attendee who was up front and center during the presentation of the Deadpool trailer and got a clean shot of the giant X-Man.
Certainly looks impressive to me. It’s unknown if this is a pure digital rendering of the character, motion capture, or new Colossus actor Andre Tricoteux in full make-up. Tricoteux took over the role from Daniel Cudmore after Cudmore announced via Twitter that he would not be reprising the role for unknown reasons.
Daniel Cudmore was only the second actor to play a live-action incarnation of Colossus. However, he’s the most well-known. The first actor to play him was in X-Men (2000). It was an uncredited role and he only appeared in a cameo as a student sketching in Xavier Institute’s courtyard. Cudmore would later breathe life into the character when Colossus is formally introduced in X2: X-Men United (2003). He would go on to reprise the role in X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014).
Deadpool will be released on February 12, 2016. The film will be directed by Blur Films visual effects veteran Tim Miller, written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and produced by Lauren Shuler Donner and X-Men: Days of Future Past screenwriter Simon Kinberg. The cast includes Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson / Deadpool, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Ed Skrein as Ridge, Morena Baccarin as Copycat, aka Vanessa Carlysle, and Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
