The Flash: Teddy Sears Cast As Jay Garrick

Via SuperHeroHype, we have confirmation that Teddy Sears has been cast as Jay Garrick, the first Flash, in Season 2 of The CW’s The Flash.  The character of Jay Garrick will be portrayed as a mysterious figure who arrives in Central City to warn Barry Allen and his team at S.T.A.R. Labs of an impending danger that he alone cannot hope to stop.  Executive Andrew Kreisberg had this to say about the character:

"Having Jay Garrick come onto the show was one of our earliest ideas. It is so exciting, as we rush into season two, that we finally get to bring the Crimson Comet to life. We couldn’t imagine anyone more suited to play the original Flash than Teddy."

Teddy Sears started his acting career on the daytime series One Life to Live.  He also made appearances on Law & Order and Whoopi, and appeared in comedy sketches for Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Conan O’Brien.  His extensive television credits also include Sex and the City, Ugly Betty, CSI: Miami, Mad Men, Raising the Bar, The Defenders, American Horror Story: Murder House, Rizzoli & Isles, and Masters of Sex.

Sears made his feature film debut in To End All Wars (2001).  He later appeared in The Legacy of Walter Frumm (2005), Firehouse Dog (2007), A Single Man (2009), Backyard Wedding (2010), and The Client List (2010).  He’s currently filming Liv.

Created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Harry Lampert, Jay Garrick was the original Flash of the Golden Age.  The character made his debut in Flash Comics #1 in January 1940.  The initial characterization of Garrick had him as a college student who became a speedster after he inhaled hard water vapors.  In the character’s 1960s reintroduction, he gained his superhuman abilities from exposure to heavy water.  Garrick would later go on to become a charter member of the Justice Society of America, the first superhero team and a precursor to the Justice League of America.

The Flash Season 2 will premiere on The CW on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 8:00PM EST.
