The Flash: Michael Ironside Cast As Captain Cold’s Father
By Steve Lam
Well, we’ve met his sister, so why not meet his father. Via The Hollywood Reporter, The Flash Season 2 has cast veteran actor Michael Ironside as Lewis Snart, the estranged father of Leonard Snart / Captain Cold. Lewis Snart’s description seems to be just as, or even more, dastardly than Leonard’s:
"The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, as Lewis is described as a cold-blooded, ruthless career criminal. Recently released from prison, he returns to Central City with a plan that will endanger both of his children. In the comics, not much is known about the Snart patriarch other than the fact that he was so abusive to his son — the future Captain Cold — that the boy spent more time with his grandfather who ran an ice truck."
Ironside will make his first appearance as Lewis Snart in The Flash Episode 203, Family of Rogues. Peyton List, who plays Lisa Snart / Golden Glider, Leonard Snart’s sister, and Wentworth Miller, who plays Leonard Snart, will also appear.
As a longtime actor, Michael Ironside has been in numerous feature films and television shows. These also include comic book and superhero properties: as Captain of the 7th Fleet in X-Men: First Class (2011); the voice of Darkseid in Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited; the voice of The Dark Knight Returns Batman in The New Batman Adventures; and the voice of Colonel Moss / Dr. Brooks in Wolverine and the X-Men.
This has been a week of announcements for The Flash due to Comic-Con 2015 where the show was part of DC’s three-hour panel for its television shows. Huge Season 2 castings include Teddy Sears playing the role of comic book Golden Age era Jay Garrick / The Flash, and Shantel VanSanten playing the role of Joe West’s new partner, Patty Spivot.
Characters being added to Season 2 are Professor Zoom (who in the comics is the Reverse-Flash, but it seems that they might be splitting the character for the series) and Wally West, who may or may not already have powers. And if Wally West does already have powers, we don’t know if he’ll be The Flash or Kid Flash. Castings for Professor Zoom and Wally West are still unknown, but Tom Cavanaugh’s voice was heard in The Flash‘s highlight reel for Comic-Con. So he may reprise his role as the same character with a name change.
The Flash Season 2 will premiere on The CW on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 8:00PM EST.
