Gotham Is Nominated For Four Emmys
The Emmy Nominations Came Out today, and Genre shows like Gotham were nominated in pretty much all the categories you’d suspect. I.E. none of the ones they’ll actually bother with on the Emmy Telecast.

- The 9 best (and 8 worst) Arrowverse characters
- 10 things nobody wants to admit about The Walking Dead
- Harley Quinn renewed for a fifth season on Max (and it’s well-deserved)
Gotham is nominated for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary or Fantasy Program (One Hour or More), Outstanding Costumes For A Contemporary Series, Limited Series or Movie, Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series, and Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Supporting Role.
I’m sure the hard-working crew at Gotham totally deserves those nominations, but these along with many other Sci Fi/Fantasy TV shows often only get nominated in these categories because let’s face it, much like the Oscars, the academy at large doesn’t consider these real shows.
I’m not saying anybody on Gotham deserves an acting nomination (although in a weaker year I think Robin Lord Taylor or Jada Pinkett Smith could at least be dark horse candidates) or that the show itself is a top drama contender. But aside from Game Of Thrones, which is a whole different thing because it’s HBO, none of these kind of shows ever get nominated for any of the top awards. Should Fantasy/Sci-Fi/Genre/Whatever gets it own category? That may be an answer but it also feels like one again the academy saying because your Comic Book show has these elements but not a HBO-like budget, it’ll probably never get recognition beyond the usual effects/costume stuff. I mean, Vincent D’Onofrio was a goddamn force of nature in Daredevil. Was he even considered? Probably not.
Anyways, congrats to Gotham on it’s nominations and maybe someday, we’ll see the likes of Flash, Daredevil, Gotham and other shows get recognition they deserve for delivering just as many outstanding moments and performances as Downton Abbey…
