Much like Mikaboshi, you have to dig pretty deep to know the story of Protege. He was a child god from the 31st Century with a very unique set of powers. Even as a small child, he was able to duplicate and perfectly mimic the powers of any creature that he even casually observed. The exact scope of Protege’s powers have never been fully explored, though he was able to duplicate the powers of the Living Tribunal rather easily.

The Living Tribunal is one of the only creatures in all of existence that could keep Thanos in check while he had the Infinity Gauntlet, so this gives Protege a natural boost. Theoretically, if Protege were to observe the powers of any of the beings ranked ahead of him, he would be able to copy their powers perfectly as well.
